Tradescantia - Spiderwort
Plants in the genus Tradescantia, commonly known as Spiderworts, are perennials native to the New World from Canada south into South America. Leaves and stems are fleshy and succulent. They are often found growing along streams, in ditches and fields. Flowers range in color from white to pink to blue, and have three petals and six anthers.
Though sometimes considered to be a weed, spiderwort is cultivated for ornamental borders and container gardens. Where it appears unexpectedly, it is often allowed to remain because of its beauty.
