The genus, Freesia, is native to south Africa. Colorful flowers are borne on long racemes in mid spring. Though they are cold hardy in USDA climate zones 8 through 10, they can be grown indoors in colder climates. They are grand in bulb gardens, perennial borders, containers and as cut flowers.
