Ranunculus species are found in many parts of the world, but the one most popular, Ranunculus asiaticus, is native to the Middle East near the Mediterranean, southeast Europe, and northeast Africa. The plants are cold hardy in USDA climate zones 8 to 11, requiring full sun and well-drained soil. Ranunculus are effective in container gardens, bulb gardens and borders.
